Best flexible cash ISA rates
A flexible cash ISA lets you take money out and put the same amount back in the same tax year without using more of your allowance. You can put up to £20,000 a year into adult ISAs. Flexible applies to the allowance, and the account can still limit withdrawals.

Flexible ISAs: taking money out and putting it back
Some cash ISAs are "flexible". This means you can take money out and put it back in the same tax year without it using up any of that year's ISA allowance.
You must put the money back by the end of the tax year you took it out, which is 5 April.
This also works for money you paid in during earlier tax years, but that money has to go back into the same ISA you took it from.
If your ISA is not flexible, any money you put back counts as a new payment and uses up allowance.
Lifetime ISAs and Junior ISAs cannot be flexible.
Example: You have £8,000 in a flexible cash ISA, all paid in before this tax year. In October 2026 you take out £3,000. If you put that £3,000 back into the same ISA by 5 April 2027, you still have your full £20,000 allowance for 2026/27. If the ISA were not flexible, putting the £3,000 back would use £3,000 of your allowance, leaving £17,000.
Check the terms: Not all ISAs are flexible, and providers do not have to offer it. Check the account's terms or ask the provider before you take money out.

Questions
Does flexible mean I can withdraw with no notice?
No. Flexible describes the allowance treatment. Access rules are separate and are on the account.
If I replace the money next tax year, is it still flexible?
The replacement rule is for the same tax year. Next year’s subscriptions follow that year’s allowance.
